WHAT IS SKIN NEEDLING?
Firstly, it’s important to note that skin needling has various names, including micro-needling, dermal needling, and collagen induction therapy. Put simply, this treatment uses tiny needles to create punctures in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing response, helping to regenerate cells, encourage skin remodelling and promote collagen and elastin production.
While the process sounds intimidating, it is completely safe and virtually pain-free. This is because the damage to the skin is quite minimal. The controlled injuries are localised to the outermost layer of skin, meaning it doesn’t cause damage at a cellular level. Instead, the skin is just stimulated, helping to improve the appearance of surface concerns.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We use a small handheld device that contains hundreds of tiny surgical-grade needles. There are a number of options available to clinics, but at Lux Aesthetics, we use the FDA and TGA-approved SkinPen.
This device is only available to trained professionals, ensuring a safe and effective treatment for all clients. The SkinPen treatment works in three simple steps, designed to activate the skin’s natural healing process.
Inflammation
SkinPen’s microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow, and activate the creation of new tissue.
Proliferation
The micro-channels or tiny holes created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
Remodelling
New dermal tissues and blood vessels form, rich in collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin quality, visibly reducing facial acne scars and neck wrinkles, leaving skin more smooth, radiant, and younger-looking.

IS IT PAINFUL?
We use a topical anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. While pain thresholds vary between clients, most say it is very tolerable and just feels like a light scratching/pricking sensation. Our team will endeavour to make your treatment as comfortable and easy as possible!
WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?
While you may notice results within a week or two of treatment, generally multiple treatments are needed to target specific concerns. As this treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing process, you may continue to see improvements in the skin for up to 6 months.
The number of treatments required will depend on your concerns. For general skin radiance and mild textural concerns, just 1-3 treatments may be needed to see noticeable changes in the skin.
